Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) is a flowering plant native to Mediterranean countries (e.g. Spain, France, and Italy). The pleasing fragrant, pale purple flowers are used in potpourri, scented water, and sachets. They are used as herbal medicine in the form of lavender oil or as an herbal tea. The oil is often used in perfumes, cosmetics, and balms. The flowers are also used as a culinary herb. The US FDA considers lavender as “generally safe for human consumption” (GRAS).
